Uptown and South End Could Become Social Districts

In the immortal words of the song “Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)” by Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz: “Uptown baby, uptown baby, we gets down baby.”

And while they meant New York City, we defintely mean the Queen City.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, why are we even talking about this absolute gem of a hip-hop song from the 90’s?

Because there could be boozy changes coming to Uptown!

Charlotte’s filling out the paperwork to become an open-container city with Uptown and South End applying for social district status.

Charlotte Center City Partners confirmed to Axios that it has submitted a pre-application with the city to establish social districts and will continue talking to stakeholders, including property owners and local businesses, while working on the full application.
