After completing two-thirds of her prison term, Allison Mack is now free, and she should consider herself lucky considering how much time her former sex cult leader still has to serve.

Online records indicate that the former Smallville star was released from a federal jail in California on Monday. She was just two years into a three-year sentence, thus it appears that she was discreetly released, which has surprised some people.

Mack was found guilty of racketeering and conspiracy due to her affiliation with the notorious self-help organization Nxivm, whose leader, Keith Raniere, was charged with abusing and/or recruiting women as well as running a criminal operation within his ranks.

Mack has expressed regret about her membership in the cult, which required members to brand themselves, have sex with the guy, and promise unconditional allegiance to Raniere in his operation. Mack was rumored to have been a crucial component for Raniere during his time.

Why do you think it is wrong for Allison Mack to be released early? Why do you think sex crimes get less of a punishment than crimes related to drugs?
