Hunter Schafer, known for her role in “Euphoria,” shared her distress after discovering her passport listed her gender as male without her consent due to a new executive order.
“I’m sure most of us remember on I think the first day of Trump’s presidency, he signed an executive order to declare only two genders recognized by the state, male and female assigned at birth,” Schafer said in a video posted to social media.
“As a result of this, which I wrote down because I want to get it right, the Bureau of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting a gender marker change or renewals or new applications with a gender marker deferring from an applicant’s gender assigned at birth.”
The incident highlights the challenges faced by trans individuals under restrictive government policies.
Schafer’s experience underscores the bureaucratic obstacles trans people encounter in updating official documents and the psychological toll of misrepresentation.
Legal battles against discriminatory policies and the broader impact on trans rights have sparked advocacy efforts and support from celebrities and LGBTQIA+ organizations.
The incident serves as a reminder of the real-world consequences of exclusionary policies on the transgender community.
