The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, is being investigated as a crime based on evidence found at her Tucson-area home.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos stated that Nancy Guthrie has limited mobility and other indicators suggest she did not leave on her own, emphasizing that she is of sound mind and not dementia-related.

Search efforts for Nancy Guthrie involved drones, search dogs, volunteers, Border Patrol, and the homicide team due to the circumstances at the scene, with Sheriff Nanos describing the situation as more of a crime scene than a search mission.

Savannah Guthrie issued a statement expressing gratitude for the support and focusing on the safe return of her mother, who was last seen on Saturday evening at her home in the Catalina Foothills area.

Nancy Guthrie, who appeared in a 2025 story about her hometown, Tucson, described the area as “wonderful” and “laid back and gentle,” expressing her enjoyment of seeing javelinas eat her plants.
