Eric Dane Loses Battle With ALS

Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan – “Dr. McSteamy” – on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has died. He was 53.

Dane revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with ALS. His announcement drew widespread attention as he publicly shared how the illness was affecting his body. By the end of last year, he required 24-hour care.

Dane is survived by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart who he said was his biggest champion and most stalwart supporter during his battle with ALS, and also their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
