Hornets Retire Dell Curry’s Jersey

History was made tonight at Spectrum Center tonight during half-time at the Charlotte Hornets game as the Hornets retire jersey #30.
In 1988, Dell Curry left Virginia to join the Carolina’s first major team- The Charlotte Hornets. Curry became a defining figure in Charlotte sports and his jersey is only the second to be retired, joining Bobby Phills’ #13. Phills died in a car accident in 2000.
Curry played for 10 seasons which is the most in franchise history. During his time with the Hornets, he played in 701 games yet only started in 77 of those. In 1994, Curry won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.
Dell Curry made Charlotte his home and became a broadcaster after retirement.
His sons, Steph and Seth went to practices and games early on and of course followed in their father’s footsteps.
Tonight, #30 was honored and retired. Congratulations Mr. Curry! Charlotte is proud! Forever a Hornet!!!
