Tom Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are returning for “Top Gun 3,” officially announced by Paramount at CinemaCon.
The sequel to “Top Gun: Maverick” was confirmed in 2024 with writer Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote the previous film.
“Top Gun: Maverick” was a blockbuster hit, grossing $1.5 billion globally from a $170 million budget, providing a boost to theaters during the pandemic.
In “Maverick,” Cruise’s character Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell returns to teach new pilots and completes a dangerous mission with Miles Teller’s character, Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw.
The cast of “Maverick” included up-and-coming stars like Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, Jay Ellis, Greg Tarzan Davis, and Manny Jacinto, alongside established actors like Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. Val Kilmer, who played Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the original film, also appeared in “Maverick” before his death in 2025.
